  • Glasgow Rangers going into administration - Is this the end ?

Shock news that Rangers tax predicament could see them wiped from the face of football !

Read the full story on the BBC website below :

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotlan...-west-17015966

The worrying paragraph for Rangers fans must be the last few paragraphs which read :

The revenue (HMRC) could stand to lose out on any tax due if Mr Whyte chooses to collapse the company.

Mr Whyte is understood to be the club's main secured creditor via a floating charge over its assets.

This would allow him to pursue other avenues such as receivership or pre-pack administration to satisfy the debts which the club owes him.
These would involve transferring Rangers assets out to another company or companies to satisfy outstanding debts to the floating charge holder and leaving the club behind with the debt.

In such scenarios, it would be likely that Rangers FC - formed in 1873 - would be formally wound up.
Is this a real possibility ? What do you think ?

Personally, although Celtic fans and maybe some otherswill be rejoicing, you have to say that this is a massively dark day for the WHOLE of Scottish Football.

If it was my club i would be gutted, bitter and demand the head of the guy (although i firmly believe that Murray is the real bad guy here)

Is Whyte a scammer who should never have got rangers?
Or future hero who knows better than the experts.

It defo aint the end, "this is just the beggining" i'm gutted but lets not forget we aint in admin yet things could still happen to stop it but either way i believe (if whyte is telling the truth) we will come through the other end and build the real dream those 4 men had many years ago. I think/hope this notice of intent is to make the taxman cut a deal, even if we are going to win the case a deal would be the preferred option to save the long uncertain road ahead when they appeal.

No matter what rangers will live on so this "when rangers die" nonsense is amusing. What makes it sad is the fact that when celtic were in the situation the rangers fans were behind them n hoping they came through.

Personally if the worst case scenario happens I can handle a few years of no trophies as long as we see the team/business being built towards a prosperous future.

"Inevitably we shall have our years of failure, and when they arrive, we must reveal tolerance and sanity. No matter the days of anxiety that come our way, we shall emerge stronger because of the trials to be overcome. That has been the philosophy of the Rangers since the days of the gallant pioneers" - Bill Struth

BREAKING NEWS - I agree with Don.... "sir" david murray and co are the ones to blame!!

Come on Sef - you know that isn't true because both supporters are as bad as each other !! You personally might have hoped they come through but it's guaranteed that a whole load of your comrades were wishing ill on Celtic. Old firmers are always the same. End Of.

David Murray pulled a fast one and got out when he could. He holds a lot of the blame...... BUT..... Whyte agreed to take over and bought the club (albeit for £1) and took on the responsibilities. He surely looked at the accounts at that time and i have no doubt he knew what had been going on. I just don't trust Whyte and think he is dodgy, as he no doubt has been in the past with previous companies which led to him being banned from owning a company for 7 years !!!

It'll all come out in the wash hopefully. I think Whyte may be undertaking a dangerous game of "high stakes poker" with the HMRC so time will tell if the moves he is making pays off. Is he doing it for the good of rangers or is it solely to protect himself though ? I think the latter.

Personally, I dont want Rangers to go out of business, but like 90% of Rangers fans in 1994 I will gloat and laugh at the downfall of my rivals, but end of day Scottish football DOES NEED the old firm, 1 The skysports tv deal has details that means both old firm teams are involved in Scottish football, 2 sponsership of teams could suffer. 3 When Celtic went on to win 9 in a row crowds were down supporters seeminly became bored with the domination it could happen again.

The ludicrous situation people are coming out with saying "maybe the fans will start supporting their local team" I've supported Celtic for 35 years of my life its inbred through family connections these just dont go away and say ok lets watch St Mirren or Morton or whoever!

At end of day Craig Whyte imo wanted Rangers to go into Admin long before now, he thought the tax case wouldve done it for him but now by going into admin he has amitted he has no money and has cheated the rangers fans in the process. Unfortunately for Rangers is if they now lose the tax case Liquidation follows, but could be good for them, as a new rangers born from the fans and having a decent guy at the help could emerge.

Good luck but dont fall out with celtic fans for gloating and laughing.

      even dimitri has a laugh

people keep saying that about whyte but realistically, what does he have to gain personally from administration?

About £17 million quid mate lol

He has played a shady game between his companies and it appears that he may be using loopholes etc to fleece the taxman, by going into administration which is something he has been wanting to do since the day he took over Rangers.

The chairman is Rangers’ secured creditor after a company he controls cleared bank debts of £17 million with a loan from one of his companies upon his takeover last year. In normal circumstances HMRC would be first in the queue for repayment of outstanding debtors, but in administration the taxman has no protection, and will have to join the line behind Whyte and the players to get its money back.

FFS the more papers you read the more different stories are coming out. Probably better just to wait a few days and see if the administration goes ahead without all this speculation.

Still not seen any statements etc from David Murray funnily enough.

I'll ask again, what does he have to GAIN? Worst case scenario he gets his own £17m back... gained nothing. I fail to see where all this conspiracy theories about making money by putting us under come from.

I agree its murrays fault badly running the club in previous years mate.

As for Whyte his business past is buying and either saving or closing down companies who are in trouble, he doesnt make a loss from that, he could sell ibrox for money and he's first in the creditors Q for repayment, hope I'm wrong but think Rangers need him out to survive

Depends if it was a no strings attached, interest free loan now doesn't it ?
    1. sef's Avatar

It was stated as an interest free loan and even if it wasn't in most cases in event of administration creditor interest is frozen. So still nothing to gain especially as even with interest the loan would be paid right away leaving minimum interest paid. I aint saying whytes all rainbows n butterflies but it seems people are quite happy to condemn the guy for something that can't actually happen. Even selling the assetts other creditors would be paid from the money raised and i doubt whyte would live long enough to see any of the cash so i really don't see that happening tbh.

Thats the thing tho, 9/10 wouldve accepted it but HMRC are just no gonna accept it they'd rather shut the company down n strip it of assets :-/

What happpens to wages during this ? anyone know? Cos McGregor Davis etc all signed new deals with decent wages plus new signing celik and cousin.?

Does Uefa impose transfer bans as well as ban from europe?

Wages still need to be paid, as for europe, if we go into administration we have a month to get (shit cant mind the name of it now) think its called a voluntary acceptance proposal (VAP), or something like that, to the creditors, if creditors accept then we come out of admin n can play in europe next year if not then we don't. Well not necassarily we don't but would be very very unlikely
